The long-awaited educator effectiveness bill, expected to be introduced within a few days, would set new baseline standards for the evaluation and tenure of teachers and principals but leave the details to an appointed commission and the State Board of Education.

DANVILLE — The Danville High School Cooperative Education Program serves as a partnership in education outside the school walls, according to program supervisor Laurie Allison.“Cooperative education is a school and community partnership,” she said of the program she has supervised for 12 years. She also teaches accounting and computer classes.

DECA Raises Money for St. JudeCHS DECA organized a campus-wide Pennies War to raise money for St.Jude Research Hospital. Today they presented St. Jude with 1,000.00 check from the efforts. Mr. John Langworthy raised the most and received a 100.00 gift certificate to Shapleys Restaurant… He raised $427.00 for the cause. Coming in second was Ms. Tempress Holly who raised 144.50 for St. Jude. Third was Mr. Brad Freeny raising 137.00. The second and third place winners received a gift certificate to Newks in Clinton.

Online courses becoming a popular choice

Some districts are taking even more aggressive steps. A four-day school week, with corresponding savings in busing, heating/cooling, electricity, and transportation costs is garnering serious attention. To compensate for a four-day schedule, schools are considering longer school days or online offerings on the fifth day. Online options include virtual courses, enrichment and accelerated programs, and programs for credit recovery—all of which can improve and expand students’ learning opportunities. Many districts see this as “win/win“ option, because they achieve a reduction in key operational costs without compromising instructional quality
or consistency.

According to a February 10th article written by William Gillespie in Business Lexington, Stanford University professor Eric Hanushek claims that identifying and replacing 6 percent of a school systems least effective teachers can turn around student performance and have a greater and more positive impact than any other expenditure designed to stimulate economic growth.
